COVID 19: Government Measures – Update

On the beginning of the third and final phase of the deconfinement process initiated on April 30th, the Government announced new measures in the context of a controlled evolution of the epidemiological situation in Portugal. However, the evolution of the increasing number of cases in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area was distinguished from the other regions of the country, which led the Government to take specific measures to this region. We list below the main measures published on the Council of Ministers Release, of May 29th.

1. Commerce, Restaurants and Shopping Centers. Since June 1st have reopened Shopping Centers, stores with an area greater than 400 m2, as well as shops and restaurants inserted in shopping centers and the end of the maximum capacity of 50%, keeping the minimum distance of 1.5m between people. In Lisbon Metropolitan Area:

  1. Shopping centers in this region will remain closed until June 4th 2020;
  2. Reopening of stores with more than 400 m2 are conditioned by municipal decision;
  3. Reopening of popular fairs are conditioned by municipal decision.

2. Remote Work Since June 1st, remote work is no longer mandatory and now it is established by agreement between employer and employee. However it will continue mandatory for the following exceptions:

  1. Immunosuppressed;
  2. Chronically ill;
  3. People with disabilities (>60%);
  4. Parents with children at home.

3. Lojas do Cidadão Lojas do Cidadão resume their face-to-face service, by prior appointment and with mandatory use of mask inside. In Lisbon Metropolitan Area Lojas do Cidadão will remain closed until June 4th, 2020.

4. Education Pre-school establishments reopened on June 1st. On June 15th will reopen non-educational activities, which include leisure activities (ATL) not integrated in school establishments. Family support and leisure activities reopening are delayed until the end of the school year.

5. Cultural Activities On June 1st reopened cinemas, theatres, concert halls and auditoriums following the rules defined by DGS.

6. Sports Gyms reopened on June 1st, with rules defined by DGS.

7. Beaches The bathing season starts on June 6th. 8. Religious Ceremonies On May 30th, 2020, community celebrations returned with rules defined between DGS and religious denominations.
