Covid-19: Government Measures Labour – Simplified Lay-off

Decree-Law no. 6-C/2021 of 15 January was published, with the amendments below to the extraordinary measure to support the maintenance of employment contracts, provided for in Decree-Law no. 10-G/2020 of 26 March, in its current wording (Simplified Lay-Off).

Main Amendment

In situations where companies and establishments are subject to the duty to close facilities and establishments by legislative or administrative determination from a Government, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, employers may resort to the Simplified Lay-off mechanism, in which case workers shall be entitled to receive, monthly, an amount equal to their gross normal remuneration (never exceeding the maximum amount of EUR 1,995.00).

The referred remuneration is to be borne by the company in 30% and by Social Security in 70%.

This extraordinary financial support to the company will be available during the period of the state of emergency, i.e., until January 30th , 2021.
